4 May

An interesting day! Even if the number of recorded species were lower than previous days we counted high numbers of Common Murres and Loons as well as some interesting birds like Tufted Puffin and Fork-tailed Storm-petrel. A surprise was the high count of Rinocerous Auklet and Marbled Murrulet. The number of Rinocerous Auklet was the highest count during our seawatch period. We had also very good views on some feeding Gray Whales just a few hundred meters offshore. We were also told that one of them, which had a scar on its back, had been returning for several years and had by the locals been named scarback. Highlight: Tufted Puffin and Fork-tailed Storm-petrel. Counting time 05:50-12:00. 44935 seabirds of 37 species counted. Weather was cloudy with a weak wind from west-southwest 3 m/s (6mph).
